The discipline of planning for and responding to disasters is a complex and difficult issue. The Natural Disaster Planning robotics mat will drive students to work through the thousands of issues involved in responding to natural disasters. They will have to plan for allocation of available resources, moving resources to disasters, saving lives and properties.

Using the toss of dice the students will be given parameters for each challenge. How many people are in danger? How many houses are in the path of the disaster? What if the bridge is out or the river overflows?  They will be given limited resources by the roll of dice. They will need to develop a plan to allocate the resources, determine the response time, and use their robotics system to get resources to the area and return to the resource area if needed. Robots can be autonomous or controlled.
