How-To: Halloween Pumpkin Seed Art

Students will design Halloween-themed artwork using dyed pumpkin seeds, encouraging creativity and fine motor skills.

Materials (per student):

  1. Pumpkin seeds (½ cup per student) – less than $0.50 per student
  2. Acrylic paint (various Halloween colors) – $0.50-$1.00 per student
  3. White glue (small bottle) – about $0.50 per student
  4. Black construction paper (1 sheet per student) – about $0.10 per student
  5. Small paintbrushes – $1 each (can be reused for multiple projects)
  6. Optional: Halloween-themed stencils or templates – available online for free or as printables

Instructions:

  1. Give each student about ½ cup of pumpkin seeds.
  2. Let students paint the seeds in Halloween colors (orange, black, green, etc.) using the acrylic paint.
  3. Once the paint dries, students can glue the seeds onto black construction paper in the shape of a pumpkin, ghost, bat, or other Halloween-themed designs.
  4. Encourage students to use stencils or freehand their designs.

Educational Value:

  • Develops fine motor skills and creativity.
  • Introduces students to concepts of texture and design.
